Hablando de Andalucía

Take a quick tour of one of Spain’s most historic and fascinating regions without leaving home. Listen to this week’s podcast to learn more about the famous andaluz accent.

Here’s some video of the places mentioned in the podcast.
La mezquita de Córdoba

I don’t know who the two men are in this video but I picked it because it has a lot of good shots of people wearing traditional clothing (women in flamenco dresses and men wearing “trajes cortos”) during the Feria de abril in Sevilla.

Listening to this without written material is challenging to say the least. Thanks so much for the practice, as it’s one accent I struggle with, without proper context! That said, I was wondering if you can tell me what Flamenco singer you were playing during the script?

    Hi Gabriella!
The singer is Estrella Morente and the title of the song is “En lo alto del cerro (Tangos)” from her CD entitled “My Songs & a Poem.” Estrella’s voice may sound familiar to you if you saw the movie VOLVER because that was her voice coming out of Penélope Cruz’ mouth during the singing scene.

    Un saludo,

I haven’t been to Spain since 2000 however I will be taking my Spanish Class there next year. I’m looking forward to visiting the alhambra again in Granada. I just showed the students my slideshow today in class. We are all excited to go.
