Twittering the week away

Hey gang,

¿Cómo estáis?

A week has flown by without a single new post here. I guess I’ve been spending too much time over at Twitter where I’ve been microblogging like crazy. In a few short weeks I’ve gone from Twitter skeptic to Twitter addict. So much for my resolve. :)  I think it’s because I wasn’t really focused on it before so I didn’t really see any benefit to using it. But the truth is is that Twitter is a unique way to shout out to the world and connect with people, both friends and strangers, on a variety of topics. Because each post can contain a maximum of 140 characters or less it’s an ideal platform to blog about items that I’m interested in but are items that don’t need the full essay treatment here on the conventional blog. In case you’re curious, here’s what I Twittered (or tweeted?)  this week:

  1. “¿Por qué un español coge el avión cuando un mexicano nunca lo haría?” http://is.gd/aL0d
  2. El Gobierno español usa el hip hop para frenar the rise in teen pregnancy. http://www.yopongocondon.com/
  3. Dec. 15 deadline for Spanish teacher scholarships for Summer 2009 study-abroad programs.http://tinyurl.com/5g6zoa
  4. Reading “Castro’s Cuba @ 50: The End of The End of The Revolutionhttp://twurl.nl/3tjh1h
  5. ELE 2.0 Enseñando Español podcast con estudiantes hablando sobre redes sociales en su clase de español http://short.to/bn2
  6. A video game to learn Spanish using Mac: http://www.macupdate.com/in…
  7. “Cuando todos caen en las redes sociales…” http://short.to/8zk
  8. L@s muxes de México. http://is.gd/aDoy
  9. Pequeña Sierra Media,el Señor de los Anillos en la Sierra Norte de Madrid.Video: http://snipr.com/7o3zb página web: http://www.pequenatierramedia.es

As you can see, it runs the gamut. Some of my Twitter entries may hold zero appeal to you while others might be right up your alley.

If you’re curious about Twitter, read this beginner’s guide about it. If you don’t have time to be bothered, you can still read the “tweets” of the bloggers you enjoy reading without having to sign-up for a Twitter account. But if you do sign up, you can follow me here: http://twitter.com/voicesenespanol and I will automatically reciprocate the follow.

¡Hasta pronto!

I love twitter :) I have an account in Spanish and English. Looks like you’ve mastered being an interesting tweeter in a short time! I’ll follow you now! :)
For those who are learning languages, twitter is a great means of practising every day. I use it to practise several languages (see the background image of either of the links above), and updating daily forces me to constantly think in those languages. :)

Brillant idea, Poliglota irlandés! Thanks for mentioning it (and for the follow). You are a hardcore Twitterer with 7 accounts. Very impressive!

And to anyone out there interested in using Twitter the way Poliglota suggests, check out this extensive list, put together by linguist/translator Matthew Bennett, of all the language lovers on Twitter:
