VEE #031 – Los pollitos dicen

Cuban-American entreprenuer Carrie Ferguson Weir talks about growing up in two cultures: Anglo and Latino and also about her business, Los Pollitos Dicen, a T-shirt line for babies. This is the longest podcast I’ve published to date. Carrie and I spoke in a little bit of Spanglish so I did an exact word-for-word transcript of the conversation plus put notes and corrections in parenthesis inside the body of the transcript.  (Leave a comment below or contact me via the contact page of this blog to buy the 14-page transcript. It’s only $3.00)

Check out Carrie’s personal blog, Bilingual in the Boonies and her business web site, www.lospollitosdicen.biz.

The name of the company, Los pollitos dicen, comes from a traditional lullaby sung throughout Latin America. Here are the lyrics:

Los pollitos dicen pío, pío, pío
cuando tienen hambre, cuando tienen frío.
La gallina busca el maíz y el trigo
Les da la comida y les presta abrigo.
Bajo de sus alas duérmen los pollitos
Acurrucaditos hasta el otro día.

The little chicks say peep, peep, peep
when they are hungry, when they are cold.
The mother hen looks for corn and wheat
she gives them food, and grants them shelter.
Under mama’s wings, huddling up,
Sleep the little chicks until the next day.
