Gringo Spanish: Santa Barbara, Santa María, Santa Claus??

¿Qué hora es? The Mexican telenovela for people who had three weeks of Spanish in the Fourth Grade.

Saw these clips posted in another forum and they cracked me up. The chubby black guy in the video is Cedric the Entertainer, a famous comic in the U.S. These clips appear to be from some comedy show he had which I don’t remember ever seeing before. This stuff is funny because it is so true, especially the reaction of the gringos when a native Spanish speaker arrives on the scene and they all have to acknowledge that they don’t really know how to speak Spanish. “Poquitos wordos…Chips and salsa, baby!…Hmmmm, wow, let’s see, [bang, bang, shoots the guy dead]. LOL. :D

For a more serious look at the new breed of telenovelas, check out Veronica’s post on the other side of this blog.

When I started out majoring Spanish in college, I couldn’t even understand this! After a few weeks I saw it again, and I could laugh at that time ;) . It’s a great starter for a class with a group of people who studied Spanish for a while now.

    Jajaja. Muy mucho funnyoso.

It seems that these come from “Cedric the Entertainer Presents”, a series that first aired in 2002.
