Water, water, everywhere, nor any drop to drink

LogoExpoThe south of Spain is an extremely arid region, so much so that it’s well on its way to becoming a desert, according to some climatologists. The financial stakes keep rising as Spanish farmers and land developers battle it out over water rights. As a result, water and water conservation are hot button issues in Spain.
Expo Zaragoza 2008, an international “water festival” about sustainable development currently happening in Zaragoza, Spain, has captured the interest of thousands of Spaniards. But reviews have been mixed with many visitors complaining of excessively long lines and waiting times and not enough substance to the exhibits. Guest blogger Clarisa Muñoz went last month and she gives us her reaction on the other (Spanish) side of this blog.

Ticket prices range in price, from 9 euros to almost 84 euros, depending on a variety of factors. (You can find the entire price chart here.)

There are some parts that look like they would be worth the price of admission, like this evening Cirque du Soleil-inspired show called ICEBERG with its striking centerpiece of an impaled female head, the mouth agape in agony. It’s like Salvador Dali meets Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome.

Below is some video of the show. The editing is choppy but you’ll get the idea of what the espectáculo is like. I posted another video of a different Expo Zaragoza show called “El Hombre Vertiente” on the other side of the blog.
