Thanks so much for this post! It clears up several issues that have confused me for many years. (The various meanings of baja in different contexts are confusing enough… but who came up with the idea that “dar de alta” means both discharge AND register!?!? Qué lío…..

Great post! Favourites of mine are “dar la cara” and “dar la lata”. But at say two explanations a week, you could have your work cut out for a while yet:
