Six months and counting

This month marks the sixth (almost seventh) month that Voices en Español has been in existence. So far, so good. But now, after 30 podcasts, 162 blog posts and 396 reader comments, probation is over and it’s time to step back and take stock of how I’m doing. So, dear reader, this is where you come in. I would like your evaluation. Whether you’ve been reading this blog from the very beginning or you’ve just stumbled across it recently, I would like to hear from you.

What works? What needs fixing? What areas would you like to see me focus on going forward? If you were my boss, and, in a way you are since a blog is nothing without its readers, what would you suggest I get rid of, change or add? What questions do you have about learning or using Spanish that the blog could address?

This is your chance to let it rip. I’ve created a survey over at Survey Monkey where you can give me your detailed feedback.

You can also leave your suggestions below in the comments section, if that is easier.

Either way, I’d love to hear from as many as you as possible so that the next six months of this blog can be even better than the first. ¡Gracias!

    Hello Eleena,

Just visited your site for the first time, so it’s premature for me to take the survey, but my immediate impression is … ¡estupendo!

You’re certainly a more dedicated blogger than I, which is one way of saying sorry for taking so long to reply to the comment you left on my Yotro blog.

¡Qué tengas mucha suerte con tu proyecto fenomenal!

    Un saludo desde Sydney, Australia

    Eleena,

I am still struggling with my Spanish, but you are doing it super good!

Eleena, I’m learning a lot from you blog, although I’m not bilingual or a Espanophile (is that a word). I mostly like to check in to get a much needed dose of cultural education from a different point of view than what exists in other blogs. I think what you are doing is definitely unique. Keep it up.

    Hi Eleena,

I think your blog is truly excellent. I really cannot think of anything much you could do to improve it. Just keep doing it as it is really appreciated! For Spanish learners like me it really hits the spot. I just listened to La noche de los feos and it is superb (though the Uruguayan pronunciation threw me to start with!) Keep up the good work, and thanks again.

Eleena, you are truly doing a fantastic job with your suberb blog and podcasts. All your hard work in producing such an informative and enjoyable resource is very much appreciated. Keep it up! And all the best for the continued success of your project.

I also think everything looks great and very professional and creative. But I’m wondering who you are targeting with your blog? Should you be more focused on exactly who you are trying to reach? Like Spanish language learners only, or people who want to know about interesting Spain stuff only, etc. I have this same problem but my blog is only for fun.

Maybe it can be clearer to go to one place for language stuff and one place for fun Spain facts. Or, if you are teaching Spanish, perhaps every blog entry must contain some Spanish learning content.

Another small point. How about making the podcast icon much bigger graphically so you can’t miss it. Now it just says “play download” how about a big picture there or some graphics to make the podcasts more important looking.

And I assume you have already decided not to make this an English learning site also for the Spanish. With your language abilities it seems you could get another big audience from that.

    Eleena,

I have been searching for Spanish podcasts for a while and of all the ones I’ve found yours is by far the best. At least for me, the level is perfect (I understand the sense of what is said, but it’s not patronising), and the topics are very well chosen and interesting, rather than artificial as they can sometimes be. I just hope you continue with this so that we can all keep enjoying it! Thanks!!

    Yana.

Wow! That’s a huge compliment, Yana. Thanks so much! And thank you to everyone for your comments and suggestions either here on the blog or on the survey. :)
