Continuing a post I made last week about apologizing in Spanish, here is the second part — accepting apologies. This entry will be much shorter than the first one.

There are formal and informal ways of accepting an apology in Spanish.

Formal and a bit aloof

Perdonado
Disculpado
Estás perdonando.
Acepto las disculpas, pero que no se repita.
Bien, pero que no vuelvas a hacerlo.
Bien, de acuerdo, pero no lo hagas mas.

Informal and more “amigable”

I tend to prefer the tone of these more because they seek to reassure the other person, the one who has apologized.

Está bien
Nada, nada
No es nada
No pasa / pasó nada
No hay de qué
No tiene por qué disculparse. No tienes por qué disculparte.
No se hable ya más de ello. (Say no more about it.)
De acuerdo, haremos tabla rasa. (OK, let’s wipe the slate clean.)
Corramos un tupido velo, ¿de acuerdo? (Let bygones be bygones.) ¡Pelillos a la mar! (Let’s bury the hatchet!)

And when you want to minimize the impact of the offense or make sure that the person who is apologizing doesn’t get all depressed about what happened, you can say:

No tiene la menor / ninguna importancia.
No lo tomes en serio.
No ha sido culpa tuya.
No te preocupes.

Tranquilo, eso le occure a cualquiera. (Take it easy, that could’ve happened to anyone.)
Ya ni me acordaba, de verdad. (I’d forgotten about it already, really)
No consta que no lo hiciste a propósito. (I know, I’m aware that you didn’t do it on purpose.)

Olvídalo.

One last thing I forgot to mention in the previous entry about “lo siento,” it’s very common and considered very courteous to use it as a means to give a polite negative answer to a question or a request. In this way it is very similar to the way we use it in English. For example:

Juan: ¿Podrías llevarme a casa?
Maria: Lo siento. Es que no tengo coche.

Tourist: ¿Puede indicarme dónde está la estación de tren?
Random man on the street: Lo siento, señora, no soy de aquí.

Boss: Jaime es un buen ingeniero.
Secretary: Lo siento, pero ni tiene el título.
