Got Mate?

MateArgentinaThis week’s podcast is a special one. It’s about mate, an infusión that is enjoyed in South America, particularly Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay and some parts of Bolivia, Brazil and Chile. On a folklore web site, I found a wonderful essay which explains beautifully the importance of mate in Argentine culture.

There is a funny line in the essay that says: “Los teclados de Argentina tiene las letras llenas de yerba.” That is a reference to how the flakes of the yerba mate sometimes fall onto the computer keyboard while people are drinking it through a bombilla from its cute little recipiente de calabaza.

I hope you’ll enjoy this Spanish language podcast. It’s one of my favorite Voices en Español podcasts so far.

P.S. You can find a complete transcript of the essay on the Voices podcast page.
