Tuesday the 13th
Today is Tuesday the 13th, so for superstitious types who live in Spain, that means don’t walk under any ladders, step on any broken mirrors or do anything that could bring bad luck. Turns out that in Spanish culture Tuesday the 13th is an unlucky day. Who knew? In Anglo culture, it’s Friday the 13th.
Why Tuesday and why the number 13? In Spanish, Tuesday is “martes” which comes from the word “Marte” who is the god of war in Roman mythology. (In English, his name is Mars.) And the 13? Well, it’s just an unlucky number. At least that’s what people say.
