Argentina recently elected Cristina Fernández de Kirchner president of Argentina. Although she is the wife of the outgoing president, Néstor Kirchner, Mrs. Kirchner is considered an accomplished woman and a political force in her own right.

The recent elections in Argentina were notable for the number of female candidates running for president (there were three), as well as the apathy of voters.
