Don’t mind the dust: The Prado expands

The construction crews are finally gone, the paint is dry and the floors polished. Today is the day that the Prado Museum in Madrid shows off what has been in the making for the past five years. In the largest expansion in the museum’s 200-year history, the Prado museum has added 237,000 square feet (22,000 square metres) to its exhibition space. All that space means more breathing room for art lovers and masterpieces. The museum will now be able to display 500 more pieces of art from its permanent collection.

To introduce the public to its new and expanded showcase, the Prado Museum will be free admission starting tomorrow, Oct. 31 until November 4. If you happen to be in Spain’s capital city, you should definitely plan to check it out. The Prado has also launched a new web site in 12 different languages plus its own art search engine. Pretty impressive.
