Hello world!!
Welcome to Voices en español!
My name is Eleena (Elena in Spanish) and I’m so glad you’re here right now, reading my new bilingual blog. Thanks! So, what would you like to know? Well, I’m an American and I’m a Spanish fanatic.
I found religion, the Spanish religion that is, a few years ago during a trip to South America when I fell completely head over heels for the language. It wasn’t my first contact with the language but it was a life-changing one. It made me realize how much I wanted to spend my life studying and learning Spanish.
Voices en español is a bilingual blog. That’s the short version. The long version is Voices en español is a place to evangelize the Spanish language. It will be a place with tips on learning the language as well as my musings on different topics related to the language and or hispanic/latino culture.
Voices en español is also going to be a conversational Spanish podcast featuring interviews in Spanish with fascinating people from all walks of life in the U.S., Latin America, and, of course, Spain. The first episode will be broadcast in November.
If you are an advanced student of Spanish, these podcasts can help you improve your listening comprehension. There will also be transcripts available for sale for each interview.
Things to remember:
1). I’m not a native Spanish speaker, so be gentle with me. I’m a work in progress!
2). If there is a particular topic related to the Spanish language that you would like to see addressed, drop me a line. Ditto for people you’d like to hear interviewed.
3). Communication is good. Two-way communication is even better! Leave comments on my blog, link to and/or forward my posts, email me, whatever. Just don’t be a stranger! ![]()
¡Hasta luego!

Hi Eleena,
I love your blog! I’ve been studying Spanish for about 3 months now and so far it has been fun but also absolutely difficult. Watching TVE, particularly the news brings out the reality that I have light years to go before I can really master the language.
How about pitching in a blog entry about prayers in Spanish? Especially prayers before meals? It would be a good way to practice the language, and you wouldnt sound weird if you were talking aloud by yourself in a table.
Muchisimas gracias!

Hi George!
Thanks for the compliment! Happy to hear that the blog will be useful to you in your Spanish studies. Regarding your request about how to say grace in Spanish, that’s something I don’t know anything about. I’ll have to do some research and get back to you about what I find. There may not be a standard “script” per se, but I’ll try to find out what are some general words and phrases that are used.
Un saludo cordial,
Eleena
